Spring Things

I had planned to post my new “spring things” blog header on the first day of spring, March 20th, but I just couldn’t wait! All this warm weather has me itching to throw away all reminders of winter and jump headlong into a new season of daffodils, butterflies, lush green grass, and short sleeve shirts. I sat outside yesterday in the warm sunshine with my grandson and watched him feel the tickley touch of grass on his perfect little feet for the first time. He looked at the grass, then at me, with a combination of wonder, uncertainty, surprise, and pleasure. There’s a whole new world opening up to him with the coming of spring. I’m glad I’ll have a chance to see it through his eyes this year.

Some thoughts on spring for you to enjoy ….

Every spring is the only spring – a perpetual astonishment.  ~Ellis Peters

It’s spring fever.  That is what the name of it is.  And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!  ~Mark Twain
Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.  ~Doug Larson

Science has never drummed up quite as effective a tranquilizing agent as a sunny spring day.  ~W. Earl Hall

Spring shows what God can do with a drab and dirty world.  ~Virgil A. Kraft

In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four and twenty hours.  ~Mark Twain

The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another.  The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month.  ~Henry Van Dyke

The day the Lord created hope was probably the same day he created Spring.  ~Bern Williams

The seasons are what a symphony ought to be:  four perfect movements in harmony with each other.  ~Arthur Rubenstein

The year’s at the spring
And day’s at the morn;
Morning’s at seven;
The hillside’s dew-pearled;
The lark’s on the wing;
The snail’s on the thorn;
God’s in His heaven –
All’s right with the world!
~Robert Browning

  • What a delightful post. I love Daffodils and all these Spring sayings. Unfortunatley we are having Winter revisit us, but our daffys are blooming. 🙂

  • I love this new header! I'm glad you didn't wait to post it. Isn't this weather just wonderful? I'm like your grandson, I'm walking barefoot and marveling at the feel of it, myself.

  • Leslie, love those beautiful daffodils. We still have some snow, but it's melting fast. I'm following you in both spots now. Hope you'll do the same on mine. Now off to explore more of your blog.

  • I love daffodils too. I almost thought we weren't going to have any here this year because I hadn't seen them yet. But last weekend I found them in the store — in little bunches. The yellow wasn't even peeking out yet and people didn't really know what they were. I bought several bunches and shared them with my mom. We both enjoyed watching them open during the week. Wonderful flowers!
