England Sketchbook: Cotswold Lavender Farm

The fields at Cotswold Lavender were just beginning to bloom the day we visited in late June.

It was a breezy day, with big puffy clouds scudding across the sky, giving us alternating periods of sunshine and shadow.

After moseying around awhile, we each found our favorite view, pulled out our sketchbooks, and got to work.

I penciled in a circle in the center of my page and filled it with a scene that featured a traditional Cotswold stone house which sat at the edge of the fields. Lavender sprigs curve around the scene, framing it and adding more information about the experience of being there.

Later, back home in my studio, I glued my admission ticket onto the top right corner of the page and added the final touches to what I had painted on location.

All done! This is one of my favorite pages so far in my England journal. It’s so cute and it brings back such good memories of being there with my wonderful group of sketchers.

If you’d like to join me next year for a travel journaling workshop, be sure to check out the Workshops tab at the top of this page. There are still some spots open for my tour in Giverny, France where I’ll be teaching page design, lettering, and watercolor techniques. I’ll show you how to paint old stone buildings, flowers, trees, skies, and much more, and you’ll learn how to design interesting sketchbook pages like this one. I’d love to have you come along – we have such fun together!

    • Part of the beauty of that trip was the wonderful group of people we had. I’m so glad you and “The Southern Belles” were able to be there.
