Christmas Giveaway Week – DAY 6

Welcome to Day 6 of the Everyday Artist Christmas giveaway! Today’s *FABULOUS* prize package includes a handmade Khadi sketchbook and a set of Escoda sable travel brushes. The value of this prize, donated by Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff, totals $375.00! Joe may be cheap, but he’s also incredibly generous. 🙂 (Love you, Joe!)

The distinctive paper in the Khadi sketchbook has a deckled foredge and medium-rough texture that makes it great for drybrush techniques. It has both internal and external sizing and handles paint beautifully. (See this post for examples of sketches painted in a Khadi sketchbook.) On top of that, the paper is 100% cotton rag.

The beautiful set of Escoda Reserva Tajmyr-Kolinsky Sable Series 1214 Travel Brushes features Kolinsky red sable and a triple-crimped nickel-plated ferrule attached to a lacquered wood handle. The brushes point perfectly and have a huge capacity for holding paint. Escoda says, “Each and every brush receives a special curing treatment to ensure that the brush tuft keeps its shape, increasing its spring and recovery.” Cool! These are brushes to swoon over. They feature a brass extender/cap to protect bristles when packed in your sketch kit. Round brushes in sizes #2, #4, #6, #8, #10, and #12 are included in the set.
Which lucky sketcher will win this excellent prize????? To enter the giveaway today, just leave a comment here on the Everyday Artist blog, and answer the following question….

  • My first Christmas Eve away from home and all alone, I spent listening to the Messiah. It was a powerful experience. Fifty years later, it is a memory I continue to treasure.

  • Oh my! When my kids were little, they loved Dominick the Donkey (The Italian Christmas Donkey). They sang and danced every time they heard it. If I played that darn song 1,000 times, it'd be an under estimate. Now on Christmas morning, I play it for them (whether we are together or apart) and they groan!!! LOL

  • As you know, Leslie…I am kind of an "alternative" kind of gal sometimes. So, I dont care for traditional holiday music. (Must be my inner Scrooge at play) But I do love one alternative song – Dave Matthews' acoustic version of "Christmas Song" – it beautiful to me.

  • My "favorite" song is "Christmas in San Francisco". That's a joke actually. I love all Christmas music…children's, religious, movie classics, etc…but I literally cringe every time this song comes on because it is just so very bad!

    • Hi BJ – I deleted your extra comments. There's always a delay after you post a comment, because I have to approve them (to prevent spam), so trust that the first one is going through. I check the computer about once every hour to check for new comments. I'm busy in the kitchen today, getting some Christmas cooking done, so it may have taken longer than usual for me to get to your comment. Sorry for the delay. Thanks for posting, and good luck!

  • My favorite carol is an old one that's no longer sung, called "In a Cave." I have an old 1800's hymnal that I photocopy the song from so we can enjoy it in our home or as special music at church. Thank you so much for these generous giveaways!

  • Posting this on behalf of Jeanne Brail, who can't get the comment thingie to work:

My favorite song is “Shepherds at the Crib.” You probably never heard of it. My father was a musician and an organist at our church. Every year he would play this song at Xmas and people would come from all over just to hear him play this. I have searched for the sheet music but it apparently isn’t in print anymore and no copies are available, however, I did find a monk at a monastery in Pa. who plays it every year and I am able to listen to that. Brings back such fond memories. Thank you.

  • "The Hallelujah Chorus" is my favorite religious music. For sheer toe tapping, I enjoy the Trans-Siberian Orchestra Album "The Lost Christmas Eve", Wizards In Winter (instrumental).

  • First of all, thank you Leslie and thank you Joe for such generous gifts!

If I had to pick one (and that's a hard one!) it's "White Christmas." I like every version I've ever heard from Bing to the Platters and every one in-between. But as I said, it's a tough call — there are so many beautiful or tremendously fun songs!

  • I enjoy dancing a lovely hula to "White Christmas," but this year's Christmas season has me replaying and singing along to the Callie & Colette version of "Bring a Torch (Jeanette Isabella)" because it just sounds so sweet the way they perform it. But, with 52 albums on my iTunes Christmas playlist, I really like almost *every* Christmas song…

  • Hi Leslie…I've been following your blog for a couple of years now and love your work. The first time I saw a painting of yours was on Pinterest and I was instantly drawn to your creations. After that I found another post that showed a commission you had painted and your words and stories drew me in as well. After finding out that you sew too I had to see how far back your blog went, so I went to the beginning and have been slowly reading through the years you've blogged. I'm currently on Friday, September 9, 2016. Thank you for sharing your creativity with all of us…you're a blessing! My favorite Christmas song is Mary Did You Know especially when it's sung by Mark Lowry and the Gaither Vocal Band or Pentatonix.

    • I'm so touched that you would take the time to read through my entire blog. I should probably do that myself sometime. It's the story of my life, after all. Have a wonderful holiday!

    • It's been a great read. 🙂 You'll definitely have to go back and at least read some of it (in all of your spare time! lol). It would make one thick book if you printed it! I hope you have a blessed holiday too!

Just curious by the time the left coast folks get your post and can make a comment it is after midnight on the east coast. Are we still in the running for the give aways for that day, or are we considered too late?

    • Each post is published at 12:01 am Eastern time, so it should show up at 3:01 am Pacific time on that day. I'm not sure why you're not seeing it until 24 hours after I've posted it. Maybe the delay is in the email notification about the post (if you're subscribed)? I'm so sorry that we've had so many trying issues with Blogger. In fact, I'm so frustrated with the platform that I'm moving my entire blog to WordPress after the holidays. Next year's giveaway will go much smoother! And, to answer your question about the drawing, the rules state that "The entry period for the Giveaway begins at 12:00:01 AM Eastern Time (ET) and ends at 11:59:59 PM Eastern Time (ET) on the date provided in the respective post, unless otherwise indicated." Since those rules were published at the beginning of the giveaway, I am legally forced to comply with them. I wish I could include later comments, but I'm afraid it isn't possible.
