About

HELLO!

I’m Leslie Fehling. A painter, teacher, and lover of all things creative.

I’m an Everyday Artist who creates illustrated journals filled with colorful sketches from my daily life and travels. With just a few lines and a splash of color, I record moments in time, celebrations of the extraordinary beauty found in the everyday.

I’ve been drawing, painting, and following my art muse through various incarnations since I graduated with an art degree from Colorado College years ago. I painted in oils, was an award-winning quilter, and had my own sewing business for many years, but it was in 2006 that I began learning how to paint with watercolor. I taught myself from books, inspired by artists whose skills seemed far out of reach at first. With time, practice, and perseverance, my skills grew, and now painting is happily a part of my daily life.

Sketchbook journaling is my joy and passion. Painting feels like play on the pages of my sketchbooks as I sketch and paint the simple things in life that delight and inspire me – a winter tree against a brilliant blue sky or my favorite coffee mug…

a sleepy cat napping on a porch swing or summer flowers from my garden.

All these, and countless other glimpses of everyday life, are what fill my journals. Sketching them allows me to pause long enough to really appreciate the beauty, color, and richness of this life I’ve been given.

I’ve been teaching watercolor and sketchbook journaling workshops in the US and abroad since 2014. My workshops have inspired people to pick up a paintbrush for the first time since childhood and discover that there’s still a seed of creativity buried deep within. It only needs a little nurturing to blossom and grow.

I love seeing the joy and satisfaction my students experience when they begin to express themselves artistically and connect with life on a deeper level. They realize they can do this. All that’s required is a willingness to try.

Teaching has connected me with friends around the world and enriched my life in ways I never could have imagined a few years ago. There’s nothing that makes me happier than encouraging and empowering people to paint with confidence and find their own creative voice. My greatest reward in teaching is when my students tell me,

“You’ve made me look at the world differently.”

I live on six acres near the Mayberry-esque town of Beaver, Pennsylvania, with my unfailingly supportive husband Fred. We have a son and a daughter plus four wonderful grandchildren who live nearby and help to keep me young-at-heart.
