We finally made it to Florence! Yesterday’s frustrations were forgotten after a good night’s sleep and a delicious breakfast. We set out on foot in the late morning and took in lots of the popular sights as we meandered around the city. We didn’t see everything we wanted to, but we had a good sampling of the city (and we walked about ten miles!)
Want to see some of what we saw today? Here you go!
The Pitti Palace…
Luscious gelato…
The goldsmiths’ shops on the Ponte Vecchio…
Lots of jewelry stores…
Policemen and women…
Big naked guys…
and some with clothes…
Pretty shops…
Beautiful old doors…
The Palazzo Vecchio…
A carousel…
The impressive Duomo…
The inside of the dome…
Yummy food at the Mercato Centrale (Central Market)…
And some not-so-yummy…
Sidewalk cafes…
A salad for lunch…
The church of Santa Maria Novella…
and much, much more.
Tomorrow I’ll meet my students, and we’ll all head for Fattoria Bacio for the week. I’ll be busy teaching (and having fun!) but will write when I can. Ciao!
